In this version of  “Mount Vernon” you see the east front that faces the Potomac River with beautiful hydrangeas in the foreground. The Dove of Peace weather vane George Washington had made special for the cupola, after 10 years of war were over. I think George and Martha’s home is a wonderful place!

Last year I planted a patch of lavender and chamomile. It was a very small garden but I really enjoyed the aroma of the lavender and chamomile. This farm is a place you would like to visit for a relaxing after noon. And just smell that lavender!

You can gaze into this scene and feed the chickens and pick the lavender. When we had pet chickens the eggs were always so special. The little houses are surrounded by things God made, that you and I like.

Written in the grass is: Psalm 12:1 and 2

I will lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

A little rest does me good! My sisters and I went camping together. We had such a wonderful time. I love my sisters so much. It was so quiet; I had to check to see if my ears were stopped up.

When I came home, I couldn’t wait to paint. Calico Quilts and Apples really leaped onto the canvas!

I love little goats. I’d like to have one, but I can’t right now. I put Philippians 4:8 on the quilt that the little goat is munching on. It says:

“Whatever things are true, whatever things are honest and noble, whatever things are lovely and pure and admirable, If anything is excellent and praiseworthy, Think on these things."

I have always loved baby chicks. The little black ones are my favorites. I had really enjoyed painting this scene with hollyhock flowers and pansies and forget-me-knots.

The little note on the ground has a verse of scripture I have written on it that I wish to never forget. We make our living selling what I paint and some times I waste time and energy worrying. It tells us:

“Do not worry saying what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? What shall we ware? For the world run after all these things. And your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” (I love that)

tThe year was 1912. My great-grand parents were farmers. That year they were raising turkeys. My Great-Grand Mother Mary looked forward to making a special Thanksgiving turkey dinner for family and friends. She spoke all year about how she wished for a nice turkey platter to serve it on.

They lived on Goodie Creek Road in Rosie, Arkansas. My great-grand father, Dixieland Carpenter saddled up his mare Old Dolly, and rode to Batesville to get a platter for her. In those days, the unpaved roads were rough and rocky. The whole way home he rode with the platter under his arm so that it would not be broken.

I can tell he really loved her, because it was quite a long ride and the platter he picked out for her is so pretty. As he walked through the door with the new “Rose Platter,” I can imagine she smothered him with kisses. What a nice romantic thing for him to do. He also brought home stick candy for my Aunt Opal, the little girl on the porch. The baby is my Uncle George. You can see my Great-Grand mother in the window working on a quilt. She was expecting her 3rd baby, my Papa Jess.

I learned of this story from my dear Aunt Opal, who is now ninety-four. Now, because of this painting her father’s kindness will not be forgotten. My Aunt Opal has inspired many of my paintings. She still has the rose platter. While visiting her, I asked her how old it was, and she told me all about it. She loves me and I love her. I have never dedicated a painting to any one before, but this one is for her.

This painting has been a wonderful project. Before I began I was actually planning to paint the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock. But all I could think of instead was the great flood, and the ark Noah and his sons built.

What faith and love for God Noah had, in the border of the painting I wrote Genesis 6:1-9 along with the animals two by two .The last verse that fit in was “and Noah walked with God”

In this scene the water is drying up and Noah’s heart is filled with joy when he sees his dove returning with a olive sprig in his beak. I love this story. Jesus is the Ark of my salvation!

I began this painting June 11th 1997 and finished on Feb. 7. 1998

In Sunflower Farm the work of our hands are celebrated through quilts and planting. Its early and the warmth of the morning sky has just began a new day. May the beauty of the Lord rest upon us and establish the works of our hands for us; yes establish the works of our hands for us! I love that psalm only through the grace of the Lord do I make through the day!

I especially love painting sunflowers and alyssum.  The leaves of a sunflower are amazing.  Their huge and deeply veined leaves are like a work of art, each and every one.  It's hard to see in such a small photograph, but I have strived to bring out this detail in the painting. Froggy courtin' Miss Mousy is the theme to the center quilt.

This is the longest and skinniest vertical painting I have done.  Many of you have asked for a picture that would fit in a narrow wall space.

I especially like this one framed in a cross corner frame. Colors that suit it best are red, black, blue, all wood tones and white.  A green frame seems to get lost.
I'm going to experiment with some orange tone frames this week. Thank you so much for viewing  Sunflower Farm!~ Bonny

"Pumpkin Day” is of an old school and its pumpkin day. The little boy with the pig thought the teacher said "pig day". The scriptures in this painting are so good:

Psalm 86:11 Teach me thy ways oh Lord; that I may walk in thy truth. Unite my heart to fear thy name.
2nd Corinthians 1:4 God comforts us in time of trouble, so that we may be a comfort to others.

I chose these verses because out of suffering comes the ability to understand and be comforting others through their troubles. It helped me to see there was a good purpose for some hard things I went through.

The scriptures in my paintings are my life line I have to have them. They are my treasure. to have them. They are my treasure.

In 2003 I had the privilege of being a special feature “Demonstration Artist” for the Harvest Festival. I began this painting at the Long Beach show. I Painted almost the complete painting while demonstrating at the shows. I have good memories of the pretty little faces of children whom would stand next to me to watch me paint.

God is so good, I hope these flowers up-lift your soul like they lifted mine while painting them!

              Written in the grass is:

              Psalm 130:6
My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning.

This picture came into my head after swapping chicken stories with my friends Pat and Mark Gables at The Country Folk Art Show. After finishing the Tea Party painting I was very drained, but God ministers to us through our friends. I called this painting “Chicken's Eye View“ then changed it to “Quilter’s Garden.”

“How Great Thou Art Lord God Almighty”! Is written on the barn, which is how this painting makes me feel. I imagined a chicken trying to lay an egg in privacy in the tall grass and wild flowers. Her view was of this country road, a quilters’ garden and a beautiful little church. God's glory in the clouds shine through the cross.

I enjoyed every minute of painting this one. Because it is a result of my friend praying for me. On the basket quilt is Isaiah 40: 8~ The grass withers and the Flowers fall, but the word of God stands forever!

My Children were once again my inspiration. They are all talented when it comes to art and have grown up doing various artistic projects. This scene was originally intended as a companion to “Friendship Garden” but took on a character of its own in the 11 months it took to paint it. I was ill for a time during this piece but I wanted to paint so much that I worked on it while lying flat on on my back! The twenty third Psalm is the scripture the Lord spoke to me with, at this time in my life . Look for it in the painting

I’ve written part of it in…. so His word can minister to you.

Fall is such an excitingseason, the colorful yellow leaves on the trees and red orange chrysanthemums are so welcome this time of year.

Frogs were great fun for me when I was a child. I loved playing outside. In this scene my boys and nephews and my little brother and sister are collecting frogs along the stream for a frog jumpin' contest.

The old fashion bluegrass group on the porch is my husband and his good friends. Our dog penny is driving the buggy. She is going nowhere fast.

I love Tea Pots and old fashion tea parties. This piece features my daughters Amy and Jessica along with their friend Samantha. Penny-dog (again) and my cat friend Miss Moochie  are having a little tea party in front of this 150 year old brick house. Their heads are bowed thanking the Lord before they take tea.

A picture of Abraham Lincoln hangs in the court room.  The time setting is around the civil war.  President Lincoln is my favorite president, which is why I put him close to our flag…He loved the Lord   and so do I.

It was not hard to fill this scene up with quilts.  I love all the old patterns.  The first quilt I put in was the crown of thorns.   I found this pattern in an Amish quilt book.

Beautiful foxgloves and delphiniums line the front porch.  Maybe you can imagine walking down an old street and coming upon a wonderful quilt sale with cake and tea served inside.

I loved to paint this old home; it is a historic home in old town San Diego called the Whaley House name after the family that built the home.  The man sitting on the porch is my friend David Todd and his grand son Travis. His bible is turned to

John 3:16 (the scripture is also written in the lace curtains on the door) Mr. Todd is a member of the Historical Shrine Foundation …The organization that saved this Beautiful home from being demolition in 1960.

My daughter Amy modeled for me in this painting, we did not have a real cow so we just pretended we had one …she and I always thought it looked fun to milk a cow  . I have found out since  from milking experts.. she is on the wrong side of the cow ! My husband grew up on a dairy farm, he told me to put some cats around because they always come running ready for milk at Milkin’ time.
